Over the years, the association has accumulated funds and sponsorships and is now in the position to give back to deserving student leaders.

Meet the recipients of the 2009 Outstanding Student Leader Awards

Magnus McCune
Magnus is a graduate of Rosemere High School in Rosemere, Quebec. His teachers would say that he shows leadership both inside and outside of the classroom and has maintained a high academic standing. Magnus considers himself a well rounded student who will be graduating on the honor role for his whole high school career. His dedication to student council for every one of his five years has been his most satisfying and important contribution to his high school . Magnus has spearheaded or been a major player in activities such as Non-Sleep-A-Thon to raise money for Crohn’s Colitis Foundation of Canada, student council run events for students to raise money for the school’s needs (dances, carnivals etc..) has MC ed at assemblies for the community and for the student body and has volunteered in many more school run activities. In his final year, as Student Council President he launched a project to begin a student cooperative where students could purchase school supplies with all profits going to create great activities for the entire student body. Magnus also was involved in an initiative involving students, teachers and sports coaches to bring school spirit back to Rosemere High School. Magnus also experienced leadership in every sense of the word, as a Royal Canadian Air Cadet for a few years where he rose through the ranks to become a Corporal at the age of 14. His various leadership positions have taught him important lessons on how to guide and assist people while encouraging them to trust themselves. A firm believer in the positive aspects of working as a team, Magnus has learned to be a more patient and disciplined person while leading his student council. Magnus has been accepted to CEGEP for the fall and is a proud recipient of the Millennium Scholarship.

Britney Hall Gallan
Britney is a graduate of Bonaventure Polyvalent High School in Bonaventure, Quebec. Britney is a dynamic and talented young woman who is involved in all dimensions of school and community life. She stands out as a leader in her class. She is an optimistic, cheerful, good natured individual who is always prepared to take on challenges. Academics are important to Britney and she is an honor student. She has organized, coordinated, motivated others and she has been very actively involved in all school related fund raising activities. She has been a committed member of the Student Council as well as the Yearbook and Prom Committees. A tireless volunteer, she has spent many evenings and weekends working on projects related to all these organizations. She is a regular participant in the school’s sports program and was part of the soccer, volleyball, badminton and softball teams. In her home community, Britney is involved with her church where she organizes the Servers Guild. She has volunteered with Family Ties, a local community organization devoted to supporting families and young people. She participates in figure skating, Hip-Hop dancing and has complet4ed all 10 levels in swimming. Britney’s commitment to service is not restricted to her school and home communities. Last year, she has made a commitment to get involved in an international humanitarian project. She organized her own fund raising and last spring she spent her March break building a home with Habitat for Humanity. Britney is a compassionate and dedicated young lady. Her involvement in the school and in student life activities has made her a stronger student leader. All through her high school life, she has set goals and committed herself to the best of her abilities. Over the last years, Britney has grown as a person and a leader. She feels ready to tackle the challenges that the future will bring her way.

For the third year, we will be giving $500 to a derserving male and female student from the 2010 Graduating Class.

For the 2010 QASAA Foundation Outstanding Student Leader Award
ATTENTION! HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AND STUDENT LIFE ADVISORS

Outstanding Student Leader Award Recipient Criteria:

  1. The award winners will have graduated in 2010 and will have made a considerable contribution to student life in his or her respective high school.

  2. The award winners should have demonstrated leadership and the ability to motivate others in areas that involve the betterment of their school community.

  3. The award winners should have a solid academic record, which demonstrates his and her ability to successfully continue his or her post secondary education.

  4. High school principals or student life advisors are asked to put together the application package.

  5. Students who are applying for this award will also play a significant role. They will be asked to write a letter explaining why they should be considered for the award.

  6. The deadline for all aplications this coming year is May 30, 2010.

The winners as well as the student life advisor and the principal will be contacted after this date to inform them of the decision made by the QASAA foundation selection committee.
